Why Santa Cruz Homeowners Choose Toto Construction
We’re Spruce Contractors, an independent Toto repair in Santa Cruz provider, and we handle everything from Washlet electronic repairs and Drake toilet rebuilds to full bathroom remodeling built around Toto fixtures. We’ve installed, repaired, and remodeled around Toto products for years across Santa Cruz, Live Oak, and the mountain communities, which means we know exactly how these units fail and what fixes actually last. We are not affiliated with or authorized by Toto, but that independence lets us give you a straight answer on repair versus replace without a factory agenda. Need a Toto technician who knows the difference between a C200 control board and a K300 nozzle assembly? Call (877) 265-5771 for a free estimate.
Why Trust Spruce Contractors for Your Toto Construction?
Toto makes precision-engineered fixtures, and that precision cuts both ways. When something goes wrong, the fix usually hinges on a specific part, a specific diagnostic, and a technician who has seen that exact failure before. We have. Our crews have worked on Washlet S550e and C200 seats, Drake and Ultramax toilets, Soiree and Guinevere suites, and Lloyd and EcoPower touchless faucets across Santa Cruz County, including Pasatiempo Toto service calls. That focused experience is what keeps a thirty-minute diagnostic from becoming a three-week parts guessing game.
Nate Calloway started in construction the way a lot of Bay Area guys do: watching Hillsborough houses come apart and go back together during his summers off, then learning the trade properly through College of San Mateo’s construction technology program before running his own jobs across San Mateo County and now here in Santa Cruz. He’s not a showroom consultant. He’s someone who has pulled enough failed electronic boards and mineral-crusted nozzles out of high-end fixtures to know that the right part and the right install matters more than the brand name on the side of the van. Good work doesn’t need a lot of explaining – you can see it.
We use OEM Toto parts for electronics, nozzles, and valve components because tolerances there are unforgiving. A generic control board in an S550e is a headache waiting to come back. For high-wear items like flappers and fill valves, we’ll spec a quality aftermarket part when it makes sense and tell you why. That’s the job: giving you the best fix, not the most expensive one.
Styles & brands we work with

Common Toto Construction Problems We Fix in Santa Cruz
- Washlet control board failures from power surges and moisture ingress. The S550e and C200 rely on a sealed electronic control board, but years of coastal humidity in Santa Cruz and the occasional brownout from a winter atmospheric-river storm can take one out. The symptom is usually a seat that won’t heat, a rinse cycle that never starts, or a remote that lights up while the unit stays dead. We diagnose the board specifically, not the whole seat.
- Mineral-fouled Washlet spray nozzles from hard water. Santa Cruz water is harder than most people think, and those fine spray nozzles inside a K300 or C200 build scale fast. You’ll see a weak stream, a misdirected spray, or a nozzle that won’t retract. The fix is often descaling plus nozzle replacement with an OEM part. A generic nozzle never seats the same way.
- Phantom flushes and high water bills from worn Drake and Ultramax fill valves and flappers. The Drake is a workhorse, but its flapper and fill valve have a service life. When they go, you get a toilet that runs at 3 a.m. or refills itself mid-cycle. That’s a water bill problem, not a plumbing emergency, but left alone it gets expensive. We stock both OEM and quality aftermarket replacements.
- Touchless faucet sensor and solenoid failures. The EcoPower and Lloyd lines use a sensor and solenoid assembly that can fail in one of two ways: the faucet runs continuously because the solenoid sticks open, or it won’t activate at all because the sensor eye is clouded or dead. Most companies guess and sell you a whole new faucet. We test the sensor circuit and solenoid separately, because half the time only one side has failed.
- Loose or corroded toilet flanges that rock the bowl. Any Toto toilet lives or dies by its flange. Older Santa Cruz homes, especially the pre-1940s redwood bungalows near downtown, often have flanges that have rotted or shifted with a settling floor. A rocking toilet stresses the wax seal and the Toto bowl itself. We reset the flange properly and replace the seal before installing or reinstalling any Toto unit.
Toto Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach
We stock the Toto parts that fail most often in Santa Cruz homes: OEM Washlet nozzle assemblies for the S550e, C200, and K300, OEM fill valves and flappers for Drake and Ultramax, sensor and solenoid kits for EcoPower and Lloyd faucets, and the mounting hardware and wax-free seals that make a reinstall clean. For electronics, we order OEM boards directly through our supply chain rather than risking a gray-market part that might be flashed for a different region or revision.
The repair-versus-replace call is where we earn our keep. A failing fill valve? Fix it. A clogged Washlet nozzle? Descale and replace the nozzle. But if your C200 main control board is gone and the unit is seven or eight years old, we’ll tell you straight: the math often favors a new mid-tier Washlet rather than sinking four figures into a seat with a second component likely to fail next winter. We don’t make money on parts you don’t need. Call (877) 265-5771 and we’ll give you an honest answer.
Our Toto Service Process – Step by Step
- 1
Diagnosis on the unit, not over the phone. We come out and test the actual failure. Is it the board, the sensor, the solenoid, the supply line pressure, or a combination? Most Toto problems have one root cause, but guessing costs you money. We check the whole circuit.
- 2
Repair or install with OEM parts where they matter. We carry the Toto-specific parts for common failures and order electronics same-week when needed. Your unit gets a repair that fits, not a part we made work.
- 3
Full function testing under real conditions. We run the rinse cycle, test the seat heat, cycle the flush, and check for leaks at the supply and flange. If it doesn’t pass, we don’t leave.
- 4
Workmanship warranty and a plain-spoken receipt. We warranty our labor on every Toto repair and installation. The receipt lists exactly what we did, what parts went in, and what we touched. No mystery line items.

AfterToto Products We Service & Install in Santa Cruz
We work on most Toto product lines installed across Santa Cruz, including Twin Lakes Toto service for the Washlet S550e, C200, and K300 bidet seats; Drake and Ultramax one-piece and two-piece toilets; Soiree and Guinevere pedestal and suite configurations; and Lloyd and EcoPower touchless bathroom faucets. We also specify new Toto fixtures within full bathroom remodels, pairing them with Schluter waterproofing systems and proper ventilation so the install holds up to Monterey Bay fog and salt air. We don’t stock entire Toto suites on hand, but we can source most current-model parts and fixtures within days through our supplier network.
We Also Service These Brands
Toto is one brand we know deeply, but it sits inside a larger material picture. We also work with KraftMaid and Wellborn cabinetry, Cambria and Silestone quartz and solid surfaces, and Kohler plumbing fixtures. If your bathroom remodel pairs a Toto washlet with a Kohler supply line and a Cambria vanity top, that’s one crew, one contract, and no finger-pointing between subs.
FAQs – Toto Construction Service in Santa Cruz
Is Spruce Contractors authorized by Toto?
No. We are an independent Toto service provider, not a factory-authorized or manufacturer-affiliated shop. That said, we specify and install OEM Toto parts for electronics, nozzles, and valve components because the fit and function demand it. Independence is a feature: we tell you when a repair isn’t worth the money without a brand agenda pushing a replacement.
My Toto Washlet stopped heating the seat and the rinse spray is weak. Is it worth repairing?
Usually yes, if the control board is not the primary failure. A weak spray often points to mineral-fouled nozzles, which we descaled and replace with an OEM nozzle assembly. A dead seat heater points to a failed control board, which is pricier. If both failed at once, that’s often a power surge or moisture event that took out multiple components, and a new mid-tier Washlet may be the smarter spend. Call (877) 265-5771 for an exact diagnosis and quote – estimates are free.
Can you install a Toto Washlet on an existing toilet, or do I need a new Toto toilet?
We install Washlets on existing toilets all the time, including non-Toto bowls, as long as the bowl shape and mounting points are compatible. The S550e and C200 adapt to most elongated bowls. If your existing toilet is a round-bowl model from the 1990s, the Washlet won’t seat properly, and that’s when we talk about pairing a Drake or Ultramax with your new seat. We can also remodel the bathroom around your existing Toto fixtures to keep costs down.
My Toto touchless faucet runs continuously or won’t turn on. What’s the usual cause?
The solenoid valve is the usual culprit when the faucet runs continuously, and a clouded or failed sensor eye is typical when it won’t activate. We test both separately because replacing the whole faucet when only the solenoid has failed is wasteful. EcoPower and Lloyd parts are available, and the install is direct. If the sensor and solenoid test good, the issue is supply-line or wiring-related, and we’ll trace that too.
Do you use genuine Toto parts for repairs, and will that affect my warranty?
We use OEM Toto parts for electronic boards, spray nozzles, sensors, solenoids, and fill-valve assemblies. That preserves the performance the fixture was designed for and keeps any remaining manufacturer warranty intact. For high-wear items like flappers that are outside the electronics path, a high-quality aftermarket part is often a sound, cost-effective choice. We’ll tell you which parts are which and why before we install anything.
How much does Toto construction cost in Santa Cruz?
Toto-specific repair and service pricing starts around $400 for a drain, flange, or fill-valve job and runs up from there depending on the part and the failure. A full bathroom remodel built around Toto fixtures in Santa Cruz typically runs $9,000 to $28,000 depending on scope, layout, and material tiers. Small bathroom projects land between $5,000 and $12,000. For an exact line-item quote on your project, call (877) 265-5771.
