PGT Construction in Cupertino, CA | Spruce Contractors

We install, service, and repair PGT windows and doors across Cupertino, and the thing that separates our PGT work here from a generic window contractor’s is pretty simple: we know what’s behind the stucco before we open it up. The flat-core 1950s ranches and Eichlers in 95014 and 95015 have shallow walls, thin slabs, and post-and-beam framing that fights a standard rough opening. Call (877) 265-5771 and we’ll talk through whether your PGT units need a repair, a re-set, or a full replacement based on what your house is actually doing, not what a catalog says it should be doing.

Why Cupertino Residents Choose Us for PGT Service

We’ve spent years fitting PGT WinGuard and Aluminum Series units into Cupertino’s mid-century building stock, and that experience shows up in the details. Nate Calloway, our owner, worked through College of San Mateo’s construction technology program and spent years in the field across San Mateo County before running projects here in Cupertino. He’s seen enough hack work on these shallow-wall openings to know that a PGT window fails early when the opening wasn’t re-done properly. We’re an independent contractor, not manufacturer-authorized or endorsed, so when we recommend a PGT product it’s because that product makes sense for your specific wall condition and exposure, not because a rep told us to push it. We keep a working inventory of PGT OEM glazing, rollers, weatherstrip, and hardware for fast turnaround on the model lines common across Cupertino, and when a part is discontinued we’ll tell you straight and show you the aftermarket equivalent before we install anything. One contractor, every trade means the same crew that re-heads your rough opening also fits the window, details the sill pan, and patches the stucco so you don’t get three subs pointing fingers at each other when water shows up.

Common PGT Construction Problems We Solve in Cupertino

  • Failed corner seals and hardened weatherstripping on WinGuard vinyl frames. Cupertino’s wet-winter, dry-summer cycle stresses vinyl seals harder than a coastal microclimate does. The corner welds on older WinGuard units will start letting air through after enough December-to-March rain followed by 90-degree August days. Drafts at the sill corners and water staining along the lower frame edge are the tell.
  • Hazed or delaminated laminated impact glazing. Years of direct west-facing afternoon sun on Cupertino’s back elevations can degrade the interlayer in older impact glass. It shows up as a cloudy film between the panes that won’t clean off. The glass isn’t failing structurally, but you’ve lost the clarity and the unit needs a re-glaze.
  • Slider track wear and roller failure on large PGT sliding glass doors. Big multi-panel Aluminum Series sliders set into post-and-beam walls will bind and chew through rollers when the opening has racked. We see this on Cupertino ranches where the flat-roof beams have crept a quarter inch over the decades. The door gets heavy, then it grinds, then it won’t latch.
  • Water migration under the sill where original single-coat stucco meets the frame. Thin-slab framing and the original stucco on these 50s and 60s homes leaves very little room for proper sill-pan flashing. Water gets under the frame, stains the interior sill, and people assume it’s a window defect. It’s usually the opening.
  • Misaligned locks and latches after seismic settling or re-heading work. Cupertino homes sit on varied soil conditions, and the same thin-slab construction that defines the flat-core tracts moves with wet winters and dry summers. A PGT door that locked fine in the fall may not catch in the spring if the wall moved even an eighth inch.

PGT Service in Cupertino: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment

Cupertino’s flat-core neighborhoods around 95014 were built in the 1950s and 60s with shallow-pitch or flat roof planes and post-and-beam structure, which means the attic clearance above most window and door heads is only a few inches. That’s not a convenience detail; it’s the single biggest constraint on any PGT installation or replacement here. A standard PGT rough opening that works fine in a newer two-story with conventional framing often can’t be resolved from the interior face on one of these older homes because there’s no headroom to work with. So we cut back the original single-coat stucco from the exterior, which usually reveals what’s actually there: a header that’s sagged a quarter inch, a beam end that’s checked, or a rough opening that was never square to begin with. Nate has seen enough jobs where a previous contractor shimmed a PGT unit into a racked opening and called it done, leaving the new window to fight the wall for its entire life. Good work doesn’t need a lot of explaining, you can see it. On a 95014 ranch near Bubb Road being gutted and rebuilt into a two-story custom, the owner wanted PGT WinGuard sliders across the rear wall. Pulling the original single-coat stucco revealed the flat-roof beams had crept and the door opening was racked about 3/8 inch, so we re-squared and re-headed the rough opening, set a new sloped sill pan with corrosion-rated fasteners, and reset the slider. The unit then tracked clean and locked flush through its full travel. That’s the difference between a window that lasts 30 years and one that leaks in three.

PGT Models & Products We Service in Cupertino

We work on the full range of PGT product lines you’re likely to find in Cupertino homes. That includes PGT WinGuard Aluminum impact-resistant windows and sliding glass doors, WinGuard Vinyl single-hung and casement units in both impact and non-impact configurations, Aluminum Series large sliding doors and multi-panel systems, and the vinyl double-hung and awning windows that ended up in a lot of mid-century retrofit openings. For parts, we always start with PGT OEM glazing, rollers, weatherstrip, and hardware. That keeps the impact rating and the manufacturer warranty intact whenever the profile is still in production. For discontinued profiles or non-structural components, we use quality aftermarket equivalents and we’ll tell you that upfront. We stock the common parts locally for Cupertino turnarounds, which matters when you have a broken roller on a rear slider and the winter rains are coming. Our full PGT sales & service page covers the brand-level detail if you want to dig deeper before calling.

PGT Service Pricing in Cupertino

Here’s what PGT-related work costs in Cupertino right now. These are installed price ranges for the project types we handle most often:

Service Price Range
Window Replacement $4,500 – $15,000
Impact Window Installation $8,000 – $25,000
Roof Replacement (related structural work) $8,000 – $20,000

A window replacement on a Cupertino ranch runs toward the higher end when we have to re-head a racked opening, replace a rotted sill, or cut back and re-patch original single-coat stucco. Impact windows cost more because the laminated glass and reinforced frames carry a real material premium. A free estimate from us means we come out, inspect the rough opening and sill condition, measure properly, and give you a written line-item quote. No change orders once the work starts unless we find something genuinely hidden behind the wall and we’ll show you what we found before we proceed. Call (877) 265-5771 to schedule yours.
