PGT Construction in Pasatiempo, CA | Spruce Contractors
We provide independent PGT window and door service across Pasatiempo, from fogged-glass repair to full impact-rated replacements. The thing that separates our PGT work here is the hill: narrow, tree-canopied private roads and steep lots in Pasatiempo change how windows get delivered, staged, and installed, and we plan for that from the first site visit. Our crew has installed and serviced PGT systems across the Santa Cruz Mountains for over a decade, including PGT repair in Santa Cruz. Call (877) 265-5771 for a free estimate on any PGT repair or replacement in the 95064 ZIP.
Why Pasatiempo Residents Choose Us for PGT Service
Most window contractors in Santa Cruz County know PGT as a name in a catalog. We know how their aluminum and vinyl systems actually behave after ten winters on a sloped, redwood-shaded lot. The WinGuard aluminum line carries impact ratings that matter in Pasatiempo’s high fire-severity WUI zone, while the vinyl Premier Series has its own thermal and air-infiltration characteristics that play out differently at 700 feet of elevation than they would with Twin Lakes PGT service on the flats. Spruce Contractors is an independent contractor, not affiliated with or authorized by PGT, and that independence means we give you a straight repair-vs-replace answer instead of a brand pitch.
Nate Calloway, our owner, grew up in Hillsborough watching older homes get torn down and rebuilt, and he has spent his career learning which materials hold up through the Bay Area’s wet winters and which ones fail quietly. When he talks about PGT corner welds or sill-pan details, he’s speaking from job-site experience on terrain much like Pasatiempo’s. Good work doesn’t need a lot of explaining; you can see it.
We specify PGT because the extrusion profiles and hardware are built for coastal mountain conditions, and we pair that product knowledge with an installation crew that understands slope movement, drainage, and fire-hardening requirements unique to Pasatiempo.

Common PGT Construction Problems We Solve in Pasatiempo
- Fogged or hazy glass in PGT WinGuard Vinyl casements. We see this on hillside homes in Pasatiempo where morning fog settles in the canyon and the original sill pan wasn’t sloped enough to move condensation out. We repair with OEM insulated glass units when the frame is sound, or rebuild the rough opening if pan failure is the root cause.
- Binding or leaking PGT sliding glass doors. Slope creep on Pasatiempo’s clay-and-Franciscan-complex soils is real, and it slowly racks door frames over the years. A door that slides fine in a flat Santa Cruz condo will bind on a hillside here. We shim, re-square, and replace rollers using OEM parts, then address the drainage path beneath the threshold.
- Corner leaks on PGT WinGuard Aluminum Series windows. Heavy winter rain driven against west-facing elevations finds the weak point at the frame corners. Often the fix is new gaskets and a proper exterior sealant joint; sometimes the corner weld has split and the sash needs replacement. We diagnose this on-site in Pasatiempo and tell you honestly which one you have.
- Hardware fatigue on PGT multi-point locks and casement cranks. Salt air from the Pacific works its way up into the Santa Cruz Mountains, and PGT hardware, while coated, still wears over time. We stock common OEM replacement parts for WinGuard and Premier Series locks, operators, and keepers so repair turnaround in Pasatiempo is short.
- Failed impact glass after storm events or impacts. In the WUI zone around Pasatiempo, a cracked impact pane is a safety and insurance matter, not a cosmetic one. We replace broken WinGuard impact glass to restore the unit’s rating and keep the window compliant with Chapter 7A-style ignition-resistant detail expectations for this area.
PGT Service in Pasatiempo: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Here is the thing nobody tells you until the crew shows up: Pasatiempo’s narrow, steep, tree-canopied private roads and driveways often limit delivery truck access and staging for large window and door units. A standard 8-foot PGT WinGuard sliding glass door in its crate needs a flat, clear path, and off Pasatiempo Drive many homes simply do not have one. So PGT replacements here frequently require careful crane or shuttle planning that a flat-lot subdivision in Live Oak would never demand.
That access problem cascades. We measure differently. We schedule material drops on the largest vehicle that can safely reach the home, and when that is not large enough, we stage at a pullout and shuttle units up in smaller loads. This adds coordination time, but skipping it means broken glass, damaged frames, or a truck stuck across a narrow lane with a fire crew trying to get through. On a steep, redwood-shaded lot off Pasatiempo Drive, similar to conditions where we provide Mount Hermon PGT service, we replaced a set of fogged PGT WinGuard vinyl casement windows where the original installation had trapped moisture behind the sill pan. We rebuilt the pan with a sloped sill, added a drainage mat, and installed new OEM sashes, then confirmed smooth operation and a dry seal through the following winter rains. That is what Pasatiempo-specific planning looks like.
PGT Models & Products We Service in Pasatiempo
We work on the PGT WinGuard Aluminum Series impact windows, the WinGuard Vinyl Series, PGT Sliding Glass Doors in both impact and non-impact configurations, and the Premier Series vinyl single-hung and casement windows. For replacement parts we source OEM PGT sashes, rollers, weatherstripping, and glass units whenever they are available, which preserves fit and warranty integrity. For discontinued profiles or budget-driven repairs, we offer quality aftermarket equivalents and tell you the tradeoff before any work begins.
Our Pasatiempo service covers window replacement, impact window installation, and the roof repair and roof replacement work that often goes hand-in-hand with window projects on older hillside homes. If a leak above the window is coming from the roof, not the frame, we catch that on the same visit. Spruce Contractors works with more than 50 name-brand manufacturers across roofing, windows, and exterior cladding, so we are not married to one solution when a PGT unit is not the right call. FAQs – PGT Construction in Pasatiempo
Yes, in most cases we can replace just the insulated glass unit, or IGU, without pulling the entire window frame. Fogging means the seal between the glass panes has failed, and on a PGT WinGuard the fix is a new OEM IGU matched to the sash. If the frame is square and the hardware is intact, that repair keeps your window in service for a fraction of replacement cost. Call (877) 265-5771 and we’ll confirm what your specific unit needs.
Pasatiempo sits in a high fire-severity wildland-urban interface zone, so the glass and frame ratings you select carry more than just build-quality weight. Impact-rated PGT WinGuard units with tempered or laminated glass tend to perform better under radiant heat, and detailing around windows matters as much as the product itself. We recommend reviewing your specific elevation and defensible-space requirements with us before choosing replacements, because the cheapest window is rarely the right window on a tree-heavy parcel here.
Slope creep and soil movement on Pasatiempo’s clay-and-Franciscan-complex terrain slowly shifts door framing, which binds rollers and breaks the threshold seal on PGT sliders. Flat-grade homes rarely see this failure mode. The fix usually involves re-squaring the frame, installing OEM rollers and a new threshold, and repairing the drainage path outside. We inspect the footing and the surrounding grade because skipping that means the door will bind again in a few years.
Yes, and that is exactly why we plan Pasatiempo jobs differently than we would in Live Oak, Soquel, or PGT in Bonny Doon. We assess vehicle access before ordering, coordinate a crane or shuttle when a full-size delivery truck cannot reach the home, and protect tree trunks and narrow lanes during staging. You get the same PGT product, but the logistics get Pasatiempo-specific treatment.
PGT window replacement in Pasatiempo typically runs $4,500 – $15,000, with impact-rated WinGuard units landing more in the $8,000 – $25,000 range depending on unit count, glass package, and how much access coordination your lot requires. A fogged-glass IGU repair is far less expensive than a full replacement when the frame is sound. Call (877) 265-5771 for an exact quote; estimates are free and include the access review.
